While not technically an Ocean City brand, Cape May Brewing Co. has become a staple of many - including yours truly’s - summer beach and deck ‘seshes.

A little Tan Limes or Citrus Shandy on the beach could turn even a hardened terrorist onto the ways of relaxed American lifestyle.

so good once it hits the lips

And with that, we bring you the headline news of Cape May buying the assets OG New Jersey independent brewer Flying Fish:

We are excited to announce our plans to acquire the assets of fellow New Jersey craft brewer, Flying Fish Brewing Company. This acquisition represents the union of our two brands – ones that charted the course for craft brewing in New Jersey with a shared foundation of entrepreneurial spirit, strong local pride, passion for innovation, and a deep appreciation for brand fans.

The acquisition is a strategic investment for us and will significantly increase our company’s manufacturing and warehousing space; boost annual production capacity; and add manufacturing capabilities to support the expansion of our product portfolio.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

But from our view, Cape May, which is much younger than Flying Fish, has come onto the scene and really pushed the envelope in terms of quality and variety, especially capitalizing on the South Jersey Shore market.

Flying Fish, meanwhile, which was founded in 1995, was ahead of its time as an independent brewer and had quite a bit of success getting on taps throughout the region, but never innovated or evolved the way Cape May has.

Still, clearly, there is value there, and this seems to be a very logical acquisition for Cape May.
