🥖 Details on Plans For Old Voltaco’s Location

Some more details on the tasty nugget we brought you last week— the sale of the old Voltaco’s building.

It was purchased by Bill Patroni, who plans to turn it into an Italian takeout eatery.

Philly Business Journal (paywall) spoke to Patroni. He said he wants to be open by June 15(!).

Despite our conjecture that they hired a chef from Hula Grill, there remains a job posting to be the head chef here— 50-70 hours per week, $28 per hour.

Patroni said his new eatery will be as similar to Voltaco's as possible. He is looking to build upon the successful local business that the Taccarino family created over seven decades.

"Hopefully we can – it seems daunting – continue this tradition for years to come," he said.

Patroni's will offer the same type of food as Voltaco's with "a little twist here and there," Patroni said. Its menu will include cheesesteaks, sandwiches, pasta and pizza.

Filling Voltaco’s shoes by turning an empty building with no chef into a contender in under 30 days is a daunting task— like Kyle Neptune taking over for former Night in Venice Grand Marshal Jay Wright.

🛥️ Marty Smith to Serve as Night in Venice Grand Marshal

Speaking of Night in Venice Grand Marshals…

The 2024 Grand Marshal will be ESPN reporter Marty Smith, who spends his summers in Ocean City despite living in North Carolina. He married 1995 Ocean City grad and former Miss Night in Venice Lainie (Cocozza).

As you know, the theme of the parade this year will be Summertime Vibes: A Tribute To Jimmy Buffett.

Smith had a day yesterday— as he was boots on the ground and the first reporter to get comment from golfer Scottie Scheffler after his questionable arrest.

The comment? “Love you, Marty”.

He has great hair.

🍬 Douglass Candies (Soft) Opening This Weekend

Douglass Candies (or Fudge), the famed Stone Harbor and Wildwood haunt, is opening on the Boardwalk this summer.

They will hold their soft opening this weekend, and their GRAND OPENING on Thursday, May 23, just in time for Memorial Day Weekend.

What to expect, per their Facebook page:

Giveaways for the kids

Just in case you were having trouble finding candy on the Boardwalk.*

*I’m kidding, of course— Douglass is a great spot and we welcome them.
