Ocean City Officially Proposes Banning E-Bikes on The Boardwalk

City Council will weigh the ordinance

We told you about this last week when Mayor Gillian announced the new curfew and backpack rules, but now it is written— Ocean City will officially weigh banning e-bikes at its City Council meeting on Thursday.

The full ordinance was released last night. Here’s what it says:

“Chapter IV, “Police Regulations” is hereby amended to include the following:

4-4.6 LOW-SPEED ELECTRIC BICYCLES, MOTORIZED BICYCLES AND LOW-SPEED ELECTRIC SCOOTERS
No person shall operate or use a low-speed electric bicycle, motorized bicycle or low-speed scooter on the boardwalk or boardwalk ramps at any time.”

The resolution cites the other available paths designated for bike riding, including the “north-south bike path” and “West Avenue route”, as to why Ocean City remains a bike-friendly city.

We’ll report back in our newsletter on Friday the results of the meeting.
