Rain Delays Great Egg Hunt
🎡 Ocean City, NJ's only weekly newsletter
What a beautiful weekend this is— rain, cold, and flooding. Last week proved to be the Great Head Fake… just in time to delay the first of two Great Egg Hunts.
A bit of a programming note: I missed the send last week as I was moving and dealing with all the complexities of that, including lack of access to broadband, desk, and computer. Apologies. But don’t you worry, I don’t plan on doing that again anytime soon… at least not until Walking The Boards becomes the most trusted brand in Ocean City and I buy that corner property on the beach.
In the email today:

⛳️ Sandcastle Putt Club Is Taking Shape
We have pictures of the new mini golf course coming to 34th Street, which looks like it will officially be called Sandcastle Putt Club.
Seen here in the middle is some sort of sand cave or the gates to a satirical villain’s evil lair— one or the other:
🌊 Bad Weather Update
Obviously the rain is expected to be extremely heavy today, with upwards of 3-4 inches possible.
Flooding is expected - likely, even - with heavy winds out of the southeast. But it will mostly likely result from the heavy rains and not so much coastal flooding, so be prepared for water in parts of the island that usually don’t flood.
Stay dry out there.
🚜 The Merion Park Flood Mitigation Project Is Fully Underway
As we told you in previous emails, the city is undertaking a massive $10.7 million flood mitigation in Merion Park. It looks like work has begun in earnest.
Truth be told, I’m shocked you can actually dig a hole in that section of the city without a bunch of baby clams surfacing and the hole then collapsing upon itself like a tidal sand pit on the beach. #themoreyouknow
🏒 Former Flyer Brian Propp Will Be the Grand Marshal of the Doo Dah Parade
From the city:
Ocean City announced that Philadelphia Flyers great Brian Propp will be the grand marshal of the Doo Dah Parade on April 13.
Propp surpassed 400 goals, 1,000 games and 1,000 points in a 15-season National Hockey League career. He is a member of the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame and is third on the team’s all-time scoring list with 850 career points as a Flyer. Propp played in five Stanley Cup championships and five NHL all-star games. He went on to become a sports broadcaster, entrepreneur, business relationship and development guru and a philanthropist in the community.
"I'm honored to have Brian lead our parade this year," Mayor Jay Gillian said. "He's a legend to all Flyers fans and a class act in every way."
The 37th annual Doo Dah Parade will start at noon on Saturday, April 13, with Propp leading the way. The Doo Dah Parade was born in Ocean City in 1986 as an event to celebrate the end of income-tax season. Over the years, it has become a highlight of the spring calendar of events. The procession features marching bands, floats and a brigade of hundreds of basset hounds.
Guffaw!
1️⃣ Number of the Week
$74,900
That is how much the city will pay to the Jersey Cape Diagnostic, Training, and Opportunity Center, Inc. for the manufacturer of 2024 beach tags.
Last year, the city took in a record $6 million in sales of the tiny plastic passes.
Price of the tags for the city increased from $0.16 to $0.20 this year. The city will purchase 374,500 of them.
Still, some great gross margins on these babies.
🍳 New Restaurant: Doozie’s Place
Coming to the corner of 1st and Asbury “soon,” Doozie’s Place will be a new breakfast and lunch spot for the North End.
Further details are sparse, but the restaurant’s owner tells Walking The Boards you can “come for breakfast, and leave as family.”
Sunny side up with a side of another crazy uncle! Can’t wait.
👕 Business of the Week: WoodLuck Apparel
Meet Jake Brown the creator and founder of WoodLuck Apparel Co. … Jake said he’s always had a habit of knocking on wood for luck, and used this as his inspiration to create what is now woodluck the brand. He says the most rewarding part of owning his own business is seeing folks you don’t even know wearing his brand! You can find some of your own @staintonsbythesea Located between 12th and 13th street on the boardwalk and online or at Woodluckapparel.com 🪵🍀
