Beach Replenishment Bids Not Accepted Yet ๐
Last week we told you about improvements coming to Ocean City this fall and winter.
Another such planned improvement - or mitigation - was the beach replenishment scheduled for the South End, Sea Isle, and Strathmere.
Last offseason, the North End through 14th Street was replenished (and some of it subsequently eroded by spring storms and the weather in late September). Now itโs the South Endโs turn, but bids for the project came in higher than expected.
The Army Corps of Engineers said bids came in well over the $29.3 million they forecasted
One bid was $33.8 million, one was $43.9 million
Itโs not yet known how they will proceed, but a new bidding process would likely lead to delays
Separately, an option that would include an extra 1 million cubic yards of sand and dune fencing also came in higher than expected.
The Army Corps of Engineers, which performs the work, is evaluating its options.
